I'm building a tap tempo for a Strymon pedal, but I only have SPST switches here. I understand this can be done with a pull up resistor to keep the ring at 5VDC when the switch is open, but having never done this before, I'm not sure what resistor to use. My guess is it doesn't matter much and a range of values can be used, so long as it limits the current between the 5VDC tip and ground for the time while the switch is closed.

Anyone want to suggest a value?

10k is what I see most of the time.

FYI, atmega's chips internal pull up resistors  are 20k or so, which is enough for most 5VDC applications.

+1 agree. 10K would be the standard value. You're quite right that a range of values will work and it doesn't matter much, at least for a tap tempo (it's a very slow application).
