Just for giggles.

I've had a circuit on the breadboard for a few days and it's functioning semi as intended.

I leave further testing until a few hours later.
But now it's not working as before. My rectifier (don't sigh you knew it was coming) Isn't lighting up the led as it was before hand.

Can you guess what the issue was?

It worked better with the power supply plugged in?

You're using crappy Chinese breadboards.   :-\

Sounds like a case of accelerated entropy - maybe your circuit f&/(ed with the space-time-continuum?

One more reason I never use breadboards.  You may have a loss of continuity caused by a device lead that is too small for the connector.  I often find that I intend to use electrolytic caps whose leads are too thick to fit and resistor leads that are too thin to fit.  All it takes is one lead that doesn't work which can be from corrosion of the leads or socket pins.

A-1 Electronics (just east of me) had a breadboard with built-in ±15 volt supplies and I was quite happy to leave it on the shelf even at the low price of $15.

No sausages yet.
Keep the gags coming.
Think simple.......

There's a prize. A set of 3 mojo 1N4148s.
Mojo because they were sent to me as an extra from Paul in Australia. They look really old, ceramic more like resistor material, not glass. I'm sure that Eric Clapton personally blessed these with his gold finger.
Don't take my word for it on the mojo thing. I used some in a screamer once and frankly I can't tell the diff between those and cheap Chinese glass jobbies.
No testing was involved.

Good luck.

Undo and start over?

I never had issues with the ones I bought decades ago. At least for pedals.

I guess breadboards are like old Fuzz Faces, I was lucky to pick the good ones from the shelf :)

The biggest problem with the breadboard for me is my eyesight.
Bad placement of componant leads.
I do have a cheap crap one but don't use it much.

Keep guessing......:)

You spent days testing with the LED in the wrong spot, but when you came back, you fixed it?

mojo 1N4148s...from Paul in Australia

I got my 1S1588s from him, those really do have mojo, especially in a screamer.

I've never had a problem with the Wish Board brand.
Inside each hole they have two metal strips that splay apart.

The crap ones have a single metal strip which gets pushed to one side or the other.  They are not reliable and they are a total PITA getting the parts in.

It's a good policy to use the right size wire.
Like most things if you abuse it it will come back to haunt you.

any studio or live work i've ever done, i'd say, without exaggeration, 50% of the problems are solved by either "turning it on" or "plugging it in".

I find my breadboard likes to be looked at in a loving way sometimes...makes it feel appreciated, and will then start working again.
