Hi, I would like to add 2 leds to my crybaby that will fade and brighten when I'm using the pedal. Would anyone be able to help mute with this as I don't know if it's possible?   Thanks all.

Hi and Welcome Bassaholica.

Do you mean like a light plate with flashing leds when the wah is engaged?

Ma throats as dry as an overcooked kipper.

I'm picturing more like heel position -> dim lights, toe position -> bright lights and fading between the two depending on position of the wah. Am I getting that right?

Hmmm...  Seems like some kind of "visual sound" arrangment?  I dunno... sounds kinda crazy, but you never know - someone might think it's worth running with...  ;)

Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm assuming it would have to be connected to the pot but I wouldn't know where to start.

Well as someone suggested a dual pot might be easiest. Make the led pot into a voltage divider to supply the led.

Trouble with that is, finding a dual  pot with a wah taper.

Show us the schematic please.

I recall someplace in the recess of my mind, that somebody did that once, and bonded the shafts of 2 pots together....

Thanks Rob.  For a moment I thought I might start to RAVE.

With my somewhat unconventional ways of getting around things...

To keep the original wah taper you could wire it to a dual resistor photocell - such as the VTL5C3/2 or a home-brew version with 2 LDRs and an LED to the wah taper. You'd have to add a resistor in series to get the right min and max resistance from it (0ohms to 100k ohms). You could add a SPST switch to the LED wiring for visual on/off. The wah taper would then control the LED of the photocoupler pretty much converting it to a dual pot.

I may try this on my wah tonight just for the concept. It's a little more complicated than how I've explained  ;D

Also someone mentioned a LED plate for the bottom cover which is a great idea if you're into it. There are some sellers for these transparent plates around the web. The floor beneath the pedal would light up apposed to a couple small mounted LEDs.

I've seen the base plates, they look great, I might try them with a different project. I'm really looking for the leds to connect to the pot so they brighten and dim with the pedal in action.

It's not impossible, you could add a second geared pot, perhaps linear taper, to mesh with the gear on the actual wah pot (toe side), but you would need to come up with a way to mount it.  If you have some aluminum angle, a drill, and a dremel, it can be done.  If there's room for all that.
