Arion SDI-1 distortion

I have an older one of these that doesn't sound too bad.  I bought it for $3 the batter wire was broken.  I opened it up and it is full of 304E5C transistors (can't find on google any ideas?) maybe Jfets, it has that sound, and film capacitors.  Plastic case and direct out/clean out jacks.  Not bad for inexpensive distortion.

A few years back I had the good fortune of seeing Son Volt on their first tour.  I've always been a big Uncle Tupelo fan and of Jay Farrar's guitar sound.  Well, after seeing them in a bar I walked up to see what he was using and he had an older Arion pedal.  I can't remember exactly what but he had a great overdriven sound.  I was shocked but those little plastic guys kick some booty.
