How do you determine the values of these things? I have several that have one brown stripe and two black stripes on them. Any idea what values they would be?

I just looked at my attic, and they were there. I have two old color code charts and one nice small quick-lookup table made by Jostykit (Denmark). I have not a scanner but I have planned to get them scanned somehow for my own purposes. Maybe somebody can put files in the net if I ever get them scanned...

As I take a quick look it is quite similar to resistor colour codes, and numbers are the same. In my chart (flat film cap example) if you start from top of componet (opposite legs) two first stripes are figures, third one is multiplier (picofarads), fourth is tolerace (white=10%, black=20%), fifth is dc voltage rating

Hope this helps
