that's it, really. A ferrite bead is just a little, well, bead of ferrite with one or a few turns of wire.
You can get them at your local electronics supplier. They're used for HF blocking: they're only in there to prevent problems in weird situations, and can *really* often be omitted.

I'm suprised how much those beads cost! Fortunately, if you like wasting time breaking up old modems & such, there are always a few in them..
