Hi!

The Tech21 Double Drive is a fascinating pedal, great sound. Has anybody built from the schematics:

Damn - I just posted a question on how it sounds :?

As you might read I already made a PCB and I'm willing to use it

∇ ⋅ B = 0
∇ x H = ∂D/∂t + j

Then......................................................................

How does it sound???

I'm interested too.

Here is a sound clip from the British magazine Guitarist. They don't say, how they recorded it, though.

I've built it using TL072.
Sounds horrible!

You need original ICs: TLC2262C or TLC2264C to get original sound of device!

Carlos

Hi Vasiliok!

Good advice to use the original chips (I would have done that anyway).
Which schematics did you use? The link I posted?

Carlos

Vasiliok

Hallaw Carlos!

Yes!
The link you posted!!!

You know, the secret of Tech21 effects - their ICs!

Cool sound because of those ICs. Others will sound horrible!

i oliminated two opamps and did it on a ratshack board with a lm324  sounded evil..

..and  it  sounds  quite  good.
I  still  haven't  tried  it  at  loud  level  though.
At  bedroom  level  it  sounded  grainy  at  first,  but
after  some  tweaking  I  managed  to  get  some
really  good  fat  low-gain  sounds  and  good
crunchy  rhythm  sounds  as  well.
Sustain  is  excellent.
It  seems  that  100klin  is  better  than  100klog  for
TONE  control  because  DD  sounds  a  bit  dark  with
100klog  for  most  of  a  pot  rotation.
100klog  for  both  DRIVE  controls  are  a  bit
too  clean,  but  could  be  good  for  low  gain  sounds  at
loud  level.
With  both  DRIVE  control  dimed  TL072  as  IC2 sounds
horrible,  but  TLC2262  improves  sound  a  lot.
I  have  found  that  DD  sound  best  with
DRIVE A  from 5 to 9 , DRIVE AB  from 3 to 6 , TONE
from 4  to 8  and  LEVEL  from 4 to 7.
All  pots  are  still  100klog  but  I  will  try  100klin
in  TONE  and  DRIVE  positions.
I  will  install  switch  for  some  other  diode
arrangements ( 1 LED or  4 Ge  diodes  for  example ).

So has anyone made a pcb of it yet they're happy to share?

Gringo

Cut it large, and smash it into place with a hammer.

I did a PCB and I will send it on request.

Hi Tomboy,

I'm interesed too, my e-mail is ns_joep.remkes@planet.nl

Did you build it yourself? Do you like it?

Please remove the "ns_" part

Hi Tomboy,
I PM you re: PCB.
Where can you buy the ICs that can be shipped overseas i.e Australia?

Talking of the TLC2262 it can be quite a hard one. I myself got it from www.conrad.de. But I don't think it's worth shipping one IC from germany to australia.

I could be completely out of order here, but might a LM358 do? It has been suggested as a substitute in some instrumentation equipment.

Paul Perry (Frostwave)

Mouser & Digikey both have TLC2262 & ship to Australia, if that helps.
Cheapest would be Mouser, ask them to use US post (nothing worse than getting charged FEDEX international for a chip!)

nick123 could you record a sound clip for us?I had made one but the sound very like fuzz.i used one TLC2262C .and the noise very hard.when i make two drives are full.
