Are there any sites out there where I can found DIY wah wah pedals?I want to build one. Are they really more difficult to build than just any stompbox? If yes, Is it because of the circuit or the case and/or the pedal mechanism?
Oh yeah!

Ansil

case bu you can get by with making one in a raco box and using a volume pedal to controlthe wah.

Making a good foot pedal is not impossible, but it is not easy either. The wah circuits are not difficult at all. The problem is the case.

I would do as Ansil suggested and get a volume pedal to modify. I like the Ernie Ball volumes because they're super reliable and smooth. I don't like the crybaby style mechanics anywhere near as well. You could use any cheap expression pedal too, but you may have to change the pot. When you get into expression pedals, now you can buy cheap keyboard accessories :D . Just plug them into your wah pedal.

One idea for you... if you use an expression pedal wired with a stereo jack, you can use a switching jack to connect a pot on the wah pedal when the expression pedal is not plugged in. That way you get a filter mode without the extra footpedal. I used to use my Crybaby as a preset filter more than an active control device anyway.

Ugly and strong. One way of making a wha pedal is using an old metal phone modem and the mechanism from an organ.

Cheapest is use a LDR for the variable element, just sandwitch it inside a couple of sheets of tough transparent plastic and waggle your foot over it. Won't work in the dark, though..

LDR idea is a good one.  I've got a wah that uses a magnet and a magnet sensor.  Works well and makes pedal-making a lot simpler (doesn't even need a pedal - you could stick the magnet under your shoe and the sensor on the floor if you wanted.)  If you're interested there's a picture, pcb etc at my website.

If you're fairly new to pedals, buying a shell and re-working the pcb is a good option.

have fun - wahs are great!
