Speaking of jaycar, has anyone tried out there PN100 trannies? Apparently they can replace
PN2221, Pn2222, Pn2222A, PN3565, PN3569, PN3643, PN5133, 2N2219A, 2N2222A, 2N3415, 2N3416, 2N3417, 2N3700, 2N3704, 2N3904, 2N4123, 2N4124, 2N4401, 2N5088 and 2N5447.
THere is a PNP version as well.
Are they any good?
Cheers,
Luke

If they're any good, they'd come in handy because I can never seem to find the recommended transistors from projects locally.

hi man,
yeah- Im not sure how good they are- but im guessing they SHOULD be ok (they will at least work, Im assumning)
I will be trying some out early in the new year- I will post my findings- but with proper biasing, I cant really see why they wouldnt be good for our purposes here.
Happy Xmas,
Luke

It looks like they'll sub for any project requiring an NPN transistor with an Hfe of between 200 and 400, if you need something to sub for something with a bit more gain (like say a 2N5089) use a BC549 which is also available from Jaycar.

I remember reading something of R G Keen's somewhere that you can do exactly that for a lot of circuits, when a lot of pedals were originally designed they were probably based on what trannie was cheapest rather than any specific qualities ...

At least you could get your circuit up and running and then decide whether you need something else ...
