i'm redesigning a booster for a friend of mine.
it uses .1uF in and out caps. but i'd like to add a tone control for it too.

so which cap should i add the tone control to?
keep the .1uF input cap and add it to the output cap (going from 0.1uF to .0033uF)?
or keep the output cap and add a tone control to the input cap?
which is best if i want to keep one of the .1uF 's there?

You don't necessarily have to remove them. You could stick it in there after your gain stages and before your output cap. You could stick it after your output cap and before your volume control. Many options....

thanks.
well all i'm looking for is to be able to make it more "trebly" on the tone control (.1uF being the "bass-side").
i'm planning to simply use a 100k pot to go between .1uF and .0033uF

so where's the best place to place such a tone control?

at the in or out cap?
if it's at the input cap won't the output cap (.1uF) reject anything under .1uF (ie. .0033uF)?

Quoteso where's the best place to place such a tone control?

I think that really depends on the circuit, maybe you can post the schematic?

Another way would be to simulate your circuit with something like LTSpice (free), run the AC Analysis option and tweak your circuit until the frequency response suits your needs.

it's simply the electro harmonix microphone ego booster (lpb1/2)
