true bypass with "blinking" LED possible?

Hey all,

I was going to order some LED to use as on indicators on a couple pedals I want to build.  Is there a way to have them blink when the pedal is on instead of just being all the way on constantly?  And, maybe be able to have a variable blinking rate via a pot or something? Say from a slow blink to a faster strobe-like blinking?

Thanks, Matt.

Though, I think you can get blinking LEDs anyway..

Thanks MarkB.

As a beginner I am going to have to have a second look at that circuit but it looks doable for me.

Thanks again, Matt.

You also could use many waveforms, IE a 555's astable multivibrator, to power the LED.  YOu just replace the 9v on the switch with the waveform, given that the voltage and current are all right.

cant you buy l.e.d.'s that blink by themselves?  i think i have
even seen this at radio shack....

Hum... what is the link for the changing color LED?

I just had a rush to build one...

You can do a 'flashing millennium' using CMOS inverters.  Layout is everything with those type of oscillators (simple square wave type) though as it's easy to accidentally introduce ticking.

I do believe that RS sells flashing LEDs, no external circuitry required.
