sorry to start a new topic, but, yea...
We played today at lunch and man... it just was so fun.  We played, in this order: Rockin in the free world, which we screwed up slightly, but it was awesome, our instrumental song, Truth, which we also screwed up but we had fun with, then was In His Hands by nirvana, which we also screwed up, then my song (oh god... I sang...) called Anxious, which, you guessed it, we screwed up, heh, I pulled lyrics outta my ass for that one, next was D-7, a song by the wipers which was so much fun to solo in, next was our porno them, just a little interlude, got a big cheer, next was a song my drummer sang and played guitar for whilst i drummed, he turned his back on the crowd, he was a little frightened, then we played a modest mouse song, Dramamine, which, yep, we screwed up, lastly was another of mine named (incorrectly) Spanish Song, We played it for about 4 minutes, i adlibbed lyrics, soloed, then at the end, when everyone was noise jamming I smashed my cheap Austin strat copy.  It felt soooo good.  People stole my really big guitar shards, and i gave some to my friends.  some people even had us sign the pieces.  I felt so rockstar.  It ROCKED, WOOOOO.

Now that you've been up there, you're probably in for a lifetime of working to get back up there.

One of my more pleasant addictions....

Congratulations on having so much fun, which is the point!

hey! nice work!

when i saw this post, i knew straight away it was you talking about your gig... brought a smile to my face immediately!!!

i think most people around here know the great feeling you get to be able to get up there and have people listen to you play ur instrument.... listen to you having fun at what you enjoy so much!

ive always wished i had the nerve to smash a guitar.... but alas ive never gone through with it.... maybe one day.... but im now way too attached to my crappy strat copy to smash it... i think i need to go to the pawn shop and pick up whatever piece of junk they have

anywho... congrats on the gig man... always good to hear a fellow forumer's success stories (even if you did stuff up! hey i do it in pretty much every song)!!!

Hear hear!  Smashing guitars is a lot of fun...and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.  I did the same thing at my school about fifteen years ago.  :)

John Hiatt said it ...

There oughta be a law with no bail
Smash a guitar and you go to jail
With no chance for early parole
You don't get out untill you get some soul

He he heh, nice one

....perfectly good guitar.

I know where Hiatt's coming from.  On the other hand, I smashed the first one I ever built, on our driveway, with my sister taking pictures.  It felt good for a little while.  I kinda miss that guitar, though.

Depends if you can afford it

I understand the stance on not smashing a good guitar, but that thing... no, it was fine to smash.  Wouldn't hold a tune for more than 2 minutes (I tuned that sucker 3 seperate times before the last song), hummed like crazy, and had weak pickups to boot.  so I feel no remorse for it.  Will I ever smash my Ibanez?  Not ever, it's my baby.

For effects, I had mostly unmodded commercials.  I had two DOD pedals: a Flanger and a Grunge pedal (grunge was modded to my fave ICs, TL072s and 4559s, and had diode replacements).  My third pedal was a dunlop Crybaby, which I wish I would've modded; maybe later.

Well, when my friend develops her film, I'll post some pics of the show; hope you guys like 'em!

Me and a mate smashed up a guitar once, and took photos.
Suprising how tough a cheap japanese telecaster copy can be, that sucker really didint want to die, i sprained my wrist bashing it against the floor. if i ever do it again i'll just take an andle grinder to it.

Photos didnt come out either, too dark

Heh, I been hearing about my incident around school ('Hey, aren't you that guy that thrashed that guitar?!') and it cracks me up.  So far, this is what I heard:

-It was a one-of-a-kind Fender Stratocaster, custom made (yea, right...)
-It was a $3000 guitar (heh, they're $175 downtown, with and amp)
-It was a vintage Strat  from 1964 or something

Man, I bought pissed my pants laughing when i heard about my '$3000 guitar'.

So give us to gorey details on how it broke eh? ;)

Somicide

Well, I hear tell that its hard to break a strat or similar, but i guess either i am strong or got lucky, or it was real cheap wood.
It took me two strikes to break the sucker, but it split down the middle, and what wasnt in halves was in shards.  the neck is still in perfect condition, and is the only part im glad isnt broken.  everything else though... pretty much gone, save the bridge and pickups, which i gave away except for one.  gonna mount that sucker on something.
