I am accustomed to a 30W Radio Shack iron but just got a refurbished Weller Temp-Controlled unit from a neighbor who works for Cooper tools.  Anyway, I always soldered everything before at 30W.  What temp should I use the Weller at when soldering resistors/caps/etc?  What temp for larger pots like 250k/500k?  Anyone have an idea of the conversion X Watts = Y Temperature

Thanks

From an old Poptronics article:

QuoteThe minimum setting for a soldering station is 280°C.
For slightly heavier work (including de-soldering), the temperature can be increased to 320°C
