i dunno but aphex have a massive reputation for studio based gear. im going off menory, but they had something called the aural exciter - which i seem to rememebr was a compressor, but which added harmonic overtones like tube distortion but i think it was solid state. anyway its sounded great and was very subtle - we used it mainly on the vox - maybe this pedal is something very similar.
