Converting Line Level Signal to Instrument Level Signal?

OK, here's the deal: I have a digital effects unit (please don't shoot me...   ) that I want to run in stereo with two amps. Problem with that is that the unit has a right and left line level output, and only a single instument level output, which would give me mono. I tried using the line level outs this morning, but I think the signal to the preamp sections of the guitar amps is too hot, even though I am keeping the output level down.

So, here is my question: Can I build something that converts the line level signal to an instrument level signal, keeping the "stereo" image? It seems like that should be simple enough. Would it be something as simple as a box with four jacks and some kind of voltage divider arrangement? If so, how do I calculate that?

Maybe this link can help:

http://www.henryeng.com/

Try 'Matchbox' & 'Portamatch'.

They convert from 'consumer' hifi standard to studio levels.

Manuals contain schematic + rough layout. Cool, ha?....

Thanks. I'll check out that link.

I forgot to mention that it states on the back of the unit that instrument level is -10dB. So, what I need to do is figure out how to attenuate those line level outs to -10dB, and I think that will do exactly what I want it to do.

Just googled this dunno if it is ok but looks promising

I´m sure there was some ready made circuits in epanorama.net somewhere

Something simple as a T-Pad attenuator should do it, have a look at this page:
