Hi all,
I'm thinking about building the Thunderchief and wanted some feedback from those who have built it. http://www.runoffgroove.com/thunderchief.htmlDoes it really capture that VH sound? It also mentions subing the J201's for something milder, any suggestions on this issue?

Thanks for any comments about this topic.

Hi!

I have built the Thunderchief and i like it a lot. Tons of output, medium gain.
I think it is better for rhythm sounds, great crunch. Think of AC/DC, old Aerosmith, ZZ top, that kind of sound.
If you are looking for the VH solo sound you will need some more gain.
Even if this pedal is not what you are looking for at the moment, build one, you will find a lot of uses for it.
hope it helps

I get a lot gain from my thunderchief. I keep the gain pot always below 40 %!Sometimes I wish less gain from this unit. But I use high output humbucker pickups (Peavey Wolfgang).
I get a perfect VH Solo sound.
See my little sounclip:
