Roland RE-501 issues

Anyone ever have an issue with any of the old Roland echo units where you only get 1 repeat(or set of repeats, depending on how you have the heads set).

Could this be an issue where the BBD is bad and, therefore, not producing any extra echo?

i think the old RE series uses a tape reel as delay..... if you get 1 repeat, most probably there's something wrong with the feedback from the delayed signal back into the input signal.
