Spraying a layer of white under decal... Does it work?

When finishing a box, does anyone know if it works to spray on a layer (or two) of white and then apply a decal on top (with some transparent spots for the white to come through)? Will the decal stick?

Yes.  It will work great with decals.  The decal stock is nearly clear, so anything underneath shows through.
