I picked up a channel-walled aluminum enclosure (Part 03-0125BR, $5.49) from Circuit Specialists for my Rangemaster clone because of the nice cost.  I saw on Small Bear's tutorial for his Small Wart that he grinds the channels down on the inside for various jack installations.  Is this really necessary/why is this done exactly?  For cosmetic, physical restraints, or grounding purposes?  Can this be avoided?

BTW, for anyone in the Phoenix/Mesa area: they have a sweet in-store deal on a multimeter for $6.95!

I use those boxes a few times and dont grind them down. I have yet to see or hear a problem with them.

I have a couple, and I like them.  Remarkable what a little extra room does for layout and ease of packaging.  The channels are helpful for mounting boards, especially multiple boards, but they CAN be a bugger for stable mounting of jacks.  I suspect that grinding is not necessary but you DO have to plan out your holes well and probably pick your jacks wisely too.

I built the Wild Mouse from Small Bear and the grinding was necessary due to the use of mini-jacks and a dc plug.  It's a pretty cool pedal.

Isn't he grinding and filling with epoxy to isolate the jacks?

I never grind mine for normal stuff.

I can see that needing to be done for a mini jack... otherwise it could be a pain...
