LPB1 Options ???????? Q

Hi,
I want to make up an LPB1 and wondered if instead of 2N5088/9 it would be ok to use 2N3904 (as I have several here) as the other types are not readily available, if so would there have to be any major changes to resistance or would it be advisable to use trimmers instead.

Should plug 'n play...with 'most' NPN bipolars,  I think the transistro is' forced' into bias with the resistors from base to PS + and -, whatever the case, most any NPN will work.
