Just built a Fuzz Face and it's only working when I play the low E string. - and it doesn't sound to great, has a low out put

Any ideas what I might have got wrong?

Thanks

Double-check the transistors are in the right way around.

then..
Have you used a trimpot or a fixed resistor on the collector of Q2?
If a trimpot, adjust it until 4 to 5 volts is on the collector of Q2.
If not a trimpot, measure the voltage there and report back.

Aha! 3.9k and 39k resistors are in each others places...

Why is it I never see these things until I post something on this forum?

Sound is good but there is a big hum accopianing it all!!!  I guess hat's what happens when you build 3 pedals and a preamp in the one box...

Measureing resistors with DMM prior to installation is a good practice, probly saved me alot of debug time in the long run...they sometimes don't measure so good in circuit [the possibility of a second current path exists].
