I chose this LED for my project only because it was green & looked like an easy mounting situation. 15mA (max). Typical Voltage is 12, with a maximum voltage of 12.9V.

I noticed that other LEDs have a much lower operating voltage.

So, my question is: Does the higher voltage rating have a negative affect on the operation of the pedal, like lower output, or shorter battery life? There is already a small value resistor in line with the package. Would changing to a higher value resistor in line decrease the voltage? Or, should I just use another LED? Of course if none of this really matters, it'll stay in there.

I have been using like this in a TS style pedal for a few months with no bad side effects, but the output level is a bit lower than that of a FD2 pedal. So, I was wondering if this could possibly be a factor.

Thanks,
Steve

Nope, the LED should have no bearing on the volume from your pedal, provided you have everything hooked up right.  As for being less loud than an FD2, that's within the realm of component tolerances, pot taper, etc. etc.
