OT: How to get IE to save images as not-bmp?

I once figured this out on another computer but I can't remember, and now it is happening again--no matter what the format of the original image, IE only wants to save as a bitmap.  I can work around it where there is a link directly to a jpg or gif, but not where the image is on a regular html page.
Thanks for your help,
Ben

Cannot help but I ran into this problem a few weeks ago as well. Interested in the answer.
More stuff, less fear, less  hassle and less censoring? How 'bout it??. To discuss what YOU want to discuss instead of what others decide for you. It's possible...

But not at diystompboxes.com...... regrettably

There should be a 'save file as type' option where you an choose between bmp and gif. At least, on the latest release of IE6 there is.
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

Thanks, cd.  That MS article did the trick.  Dirk, check it out.

IE also does this stupid thing where it doesn't wanna save the image well if you have a full cache....you need to clear your temporary files then restart IE.  Wanna download the fix?:

I applied that "firefox patch" some time ago and everything has been great since. Highly recommend.
