Can somebody explain to me how tone control works, i have this bleak idea of how it works by putting resistors and caps together in parallel but thats pretty much it.  Any help would be appreciated.

Search google for things like "low pass filter" and "high pass filter" or "RC filter" (RC standing for resistor/capacitor)

Basically, the combination of a resistor and a capacitor forms a filter. Depending on which is placed where will determine if it's a high or a low pass filter. The values of the components affect the cutoff frequency of the filter (ie; the frequency at which the filter is set)

While you're reading, try to think of a capacitor as a device that will let AC pass through it  much more easily than DC. (In fact, in an ideal world, NO DC can pass through a capacitor)

A tone control is just an adjustable filter.
