Try this: click internet options- security tab-select internet-hit the custom level button-find the checkbox for active scripting and make sure it is set to enable.
I have IE5 and just tested this procedure. If it is set to enable the calculator appears as it should, if the disable box is checked the calculator is just a couple of functionless blank boxes.
Don't forget to refresh the calculator page after you change your settings.
I also have Avant browser which is an IE add-on. With that I only need to click on the TOOLS menu on the top bar and there is an option to enable/disable scripts right there. maybe FIREFOX has something like that as well.
           Good luck

I can get it to work using  a version of Knoppix Linux I have sitting around so i'm going to use that.  I know that that will be easier for me and Steve.
