Why does it run (does it?) two 512-stage sections in parallel?

I believe it's called Parallel Multiplex, and allows improved signal to noise ratio, but I'm sure Mike will be able to elaborate on that rather sparse offering!

Also effectively doubles the sample rate for a given clock speed - if you want to attain very short delays and are trying to nudge that clock past 1 or 2 MHz this method is very useful (BTW the clock is better than most and can be tweaked to go to 5 MHz).
