Has anyone attempted to build a Small Stone using CA3080s? Or another IC to replace the CA3094? What do they use in the new reissues? Any help would be appreciated.

Found CA3080 version on tonepad. will give it a try. Anyone had success with this one yet?

Hi Roknjohn, welcome to the forum!

Yes, a phaser with 3080 is quite do-able.
Somewhere on the web, there`s also a "Ross" phaser version,
which uses a LM13600 or LM13700 (double OTA, 2 improved "3080"s...).

can`t find it at the moment, though - probably s.o. else will link you there,
soon...

(or try google)

roknjohn,

Here is the Ross phaser from Tonepad.  http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=47  It is very flexible.  You will notice a lot of mods listed in the project file, and a search of the Forum will turn up even more ideas.

I hope this helps.

Thanks guys,

I'm gonna try the Small Stone first. Have the CA3080s on hand and one or two of the LM13600s so I'll give the Ross a try later.

Anyone have a particular preference, one over the other?

I prefer the 13600 version, coz it doesn`t ask for external transistors.
Soundwise, they are the same, in my ears... :)

I built the stock version from Tonepad, with CA3080's from Small Bear. It sounds great, but I have a feeling the Ross Phaser with LM13600's will be easier (less components)
