Does anyone have any recomendations for a beggining book on analog electronis that would directly deal with stomp boxes. I just need to learn the basics about reading schematics and knowing the uses of various parts.

For stompbox specific basics of part identification and schematic reading, it's hard to beat Craig Anderton's "Electronic Projects For Musicians" (EPFM).

For a more general textbook on electronics, I have found the following to be very useful:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0071360573/qid=1097308019/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_2_1/102-7305509-1193746

Excellent for a hands on and intuitive understanding of basic principles. Very high stompbox relevance factor also. Highly recommended.
