i've been reading about changing the delay time/repeat pot for longer delay is this possible with a boss dd3?

You could change the frequency of the voltage controlled clock oscillator by increasing the value of capacitor C46 (Or at least that is what called in the dd-2 schematic) you should be able to find that cap in the dd-3 too..

This will change the total range of delay of the pedal.. You might run into trouble with the de-emphasis filter.. but that is another story..

Good luck..

Depending on the design, you might be able to add more time by doubling the delay memory.

Can anybody point to a schematic?

apparently dd2 = dd3
when Dram became cheaper instead of dropping the price Boss rereleased sp? it with a different name

Hmmmmm..... interesting. :D

Chances are very good that you could double the delay time by piggybacking additional 4164s on top of the existing chips, but with the Q output of the original DRAM connected to the D input of the new chip and the Q output of the new chip connected to the place the Q output of the old chip used to be connected.

Repeat this piggybacking for all three DRAM chips.

This is just a guess though..... ;)

There are multiple pedals that use expanded RAM in this way, but they use different controllers. I assume the same approach would work here too.

In that pedal the delay time sets a CPU clock speed and that CPU handles DRAM refresh. If you slow that clock down too much you will start to hear aliasing noise and then the memory may start loosing data if it's not refreshed enough.

Good luck! :D
