This was not a "blind" purchase. I got samples first, and Tom built a bunch of parts that have gotten good reviews. Any suggestions for a source for wire?

I believe this is what you're looking for. Like Paul Perry already stated, the right gauge would make winding to the ideal 500mh much easier.
