LA light Q: What LDR value/ why two LEDs?

..the reason for two LEDs is that if you only use one, with the cap before it, DC voltage will build up and prevent the LED from working. also the second LED can be used ( through the chassis ) as an indicator showing when the unit start to limit.
the lower resistance the LDR can go, the better. please note that responce time can be very different between different LDR's and it will affect performance. ..I have used Vactrol VTL5c2 in the units I've built. I tried many others but that one was the best of the commersial ones I could get...

can't I use a pot in conjuction to the LED (parallel or in seires) to control the respones?

BTW - by "response" do you mean "attack"?
