Very interesting idea.

Did you use the specified pots from runoffgroove?  Jsut cruiosu, I'm building a ruby right now with bassman mods.  However, I am going to use a switched volume pot to turn on the power.  Seems more natural like a portable radio.

Everything is just the ruby as it is, haven't tried any of the mod mentioned at rungrove.
Cool idea dude! - switched volume pot.

I think I fried my lm386.  I had it soldered to a perfboard (before I had my new breadboard).  Well, the circuit is correct but no sound.  I probably got it too hot while unsoldering.

Socket the LM386.  You'll avoid frying it, unless it's fed too much voltage than what it can handle.  :D
