I don't pretend to understand all of this, but part of the point of doing your own op amp is to be able to use different transistors to tweak the distortions???

Yeah. So far using a JFET input and Ge output sounded the best, but had the lowest gain. I'll try those suggestions RG. Looks like you can optimize parts count based on what the final circuit will need.

I remember a Fuzz Face schematic that had a switch to change transistors (Q1) in it.  Hmmmm.
