Are fry's and Radio shack potentiometers total crap??? It seems I can never get any that work well.  Anyone else have this happen to them?

The "UK" version of the "RatShack" is Maplin electronics, I've used their 20mm pots ( Omeg/Citec ) and they seem cheap and "rough" in use.
I go with "Alpha 16mm" whenever possible now, much smoother and better quality.

Marty, where do you get your alpha 16mm pots from? i go with rapid electronics who have just about everything i need in linear values but hardlly anything in log. i wouldnt mind so much but they dont have 100k Log pots in 16mm which is really annoying

ESR components, I think Torchy put me on to them, they have lin/log 16mm alphas is lots of values !!  cheap too
Good for 1uf/.47uf etc poly caps too  :D
Also "Bardwells" up north are very good, for obscure trannies etc
