Transistor Substitutions

Anybody know some good european and far east standard substitutes for the following?

2N50889
2N3906  2N3904
J201, 2N5457, etct

I get these questions all the time and I need to put some info in FAQ.  Is BC549 a good sub for 2N5088?

the bc549 can be sub for the 2n5088 and 2n5089, but there will the different letters on the end (A= low gain, B= Medium gain, C high gain)

i've used the bc549 as a sub for 2n3904

bc559C can be used as a sub for 2n5087 and 2n3906

i live in the uk and i use the j201  for the 2n5457
