noisy digitech echo plus pds 8000 problem

Hi all,

I've got an old digitech echo plus that produces a kind of white noise when the pedal is engaged. If I turn the input, output, or effect mix pots - the white noise gets even louder...even if I decrease the volume. I have read that this pedal has both input and output fet buffers, could they have gone bad?  what might be a possible reason for the noise?  I'm trying to get an idea what might be involved to fix it.  Outside of that, the pedal seems to work fine.  any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
