Hi

just looking to know something:

If I change a diode rectfier in a circuit with another one, with  superior performance, and higher Voltage/Amperage capabilities, do I need to tweak this circuit somehow or can I replace the part and be happy? Is there a rule for this?

This regards switching a 1N4007 for a  DSEI 12-12A  (a FRED)

thanks!

Somebody else can chime in if I'm wrong, but I believe that if the circuit calls for something like a 1N4001, and you have a 1N4004, that it will be a suitable substitute for our applications. It has the same characteristics, but can be used in a higher voltage application without smoking, such as power supplies. I'm sure I have done just that from where I've stripped them out of a TV chassis or something. It's on the order of using a 2 watt resistor instead of a 1/4 watt. If it's the same value, it doesn't matter, it'll just take up more room (and on diodes, the package size doesn't change much if any in most cases). I have no idea what the DSEI 12-12A diode is, but I believe that's how it works with like diodes of different voltage capabilities. It's should be the same for 1N916s being subbed for 1N914s. I'm sure I've done that one

Big Ones yeahhh...yanked a bunch, threw some on the diodes tester, looked PDGood for PS Protection...haven't have a peep out of them yet.

hey, thanks for the feedback.

here are the datasheets of both. I'm considering the FRED diode because I've read audiophiles confirming their quality, plus Aiken amps use them.

The DSEI12 is much more powerful, my question is reallly if it will give any problem replacing de 1n400X family...

Please, forgive my ignorance and present lack of understanding.

But to be sure...In repairing my Boss DS-1: I may successfully replace the IN4004 rectifier (labelled "D1") with an IN4007 without problem, but if I replace it with an IN4001 I should look forward to an mini-explosion?

Nevermind... Erm...Oh look...something...that um...takes me away from my stupid post.
