How to change the value of pots

Is there any way of changing the value of a pot?  I have a 100k pot that I scavenged off of a DOD pedal that I would like to use in an orange squeezer because it is small and will fit nicely in the enclosure I want to use.  I put a 10k resistor across lugs 1 and 3 to get the value of the pot down to about 9k ohms, which I figure is close enough for this application.  Is this kosher?  Will it affect the taper of the pot?  Is there any other way to do this?  Thanks.

Should be fine...you're getting V/R out of it up to 9k...
I generally don't do more than a 10x reduction to value match pots.
