Hello

I am building the GNAT from AMZ.  The schematic indicates a pair of JFETS and Jack suggests MPF102.  I don't have any of those, but I have plenty of J201s.  Question is can I sub the J201 for the MPF102?
Thanks

You can sub a J201 for a MPF102, but the bias will be a little different (probably not an issue) and it will have higher gain. :D

RadioShack sells the MPF102 as their only JFET.

If you have tested your JFETs for gain, just use the least sensitive ones from the batch. :D

The jfets are used as clipping diodes in the Fat Gnat so use whatever devices you have around....  J201, MPF102, 2N5457, BF245 or whatever. They all will work quite well.

Thanks

I already through in the J201s.   The GNAT is my favorite pedal from the AMZ CD so far.   By the way Jack, nice article on variable gain for booster pedels.  I am going to mod my AMZ mini-booster to have this feature.
