the best cheap solder

i just ran out and i was useing 62/36/2 .025 silver solder. i had about
5 lb.s of it. it's not cheap. i used the search function and came up dry.
i remember a thread some time ago ,but i don't see it.

I just use Radio Shack rosin core solder. They have spools of differing gauge and length. Pretty reasonably priced, too.

Seems to work well, and I've never had any problems with cold solder joints or anything.

I'm sure there's solder out there with more "mojo" but this stuff does the job well.

I have radio shack .063diameter and Kester .025 diameter.  I got the Kester (1lb spool) from ax-man (http://ax-man.com/) last time I was in the cities for cheap.

:?  Seems the shipping would probably kill you on that with ordering online...  if you were to take advantage of the price breaks, the shipping would probably cancel it out... I mean, 10+ pounds? :shock:  ouch

Not sure where you are, but you should definitely call around town a bit... not just electronics stores, but try surplus stores like the one SirPoonga suggested.

Personally, I get half pounds of 60/40, .032 solder from Active Surplus here in Toronto.  It's labelled "Super Solder Wire - The Best Quality Solder"  :lol: ... I think it's around $4-something, Canadian.  Perfect size and weight (for me anyway) to hold on to while soldering.

Most of us usually buy other stuff when we get supplies like solder. Have you checked out Circuit Specialists lately? They're carrying more and more items usefull for fx.

BTW, you obviously haven't ordered from them, their shipping is very reasonable.
