Locating 2sc828R transistors/compatibility...

I've found that 5088s, 3904, 5089s can work in almost any simple circuit I try them in, however, certain Japanese circuits (the Kay Trem and Fuzz) seem to want those specific trannies.

Any thoughts on what is easily available in the US that can replace those?

Are 2sc828R's still available somewhere?
