BC550C - Can it be subbed with a 2N5088?

I'm prototyping a pedal and the schem calls for BC550C transistors. I don't have any of those, but I have about 8 of the 2N5088 transistors. I looked at the data sheets and they seem to be the same (except for the higher hfe for the 2N5088s).

Has someone else done something similar? I don't want to fry the transistors :(

Should probly work fine.
 5088's are good all purpose.

Nothing special about BC550s except the low noise spec.

O

So are they less noisy than the 2n5088's?

Ge_Whiz

I dunno - you've got the data sheets.  8)

2n5089's are high gain/low noise, MPSA18 is another example.

I didn't ever notice much noise with 5088's.
Depending on the circuit, I think 5088's have enough gain.

FWIW, the ckt is a compressor... so it would probably benefit from low noise/high gain. :?
