Can I solder Silicon transistors without using a heat sink alligator clip??

If you're technique is good. (ie; fast but reliable soldering)

Generally, most people who've done a bit of soldering won't have a problem. Beginners are another matter!

OK I'm just working on my D-Comp & using a clip just in case.
I'm (roughly) timing how long it takes per weld.
Would 3 seconds be quick enough not to damage the trans??

Thanks

i advise socketing all semiconductors. that way, you run no risk and can easily replace them or substitute them for different sounds.

I use sinks anyway...
But 'cheat...if it's not right there, and heat the pad first, using the solder to cool the joint as the lead gets just hot enough to grab...if that makes any sense.
tricky or spotty at best...if you like to eliminate 'unknowns' use heat sinks.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.
