What to buy?

I am stocking up on components and I am wondering what IC's and transistors to buy in bulk, what are the most commonly used components that I should stock up on? To narrow it down, I will be working on distortion/fuzz chorus, phase and delay pedals. (I am addicted). I already have lots of resistors and capacitors on the way courtesy of fastcomponents.

Both Fuzz Central and General Guitar Gadgets have parts lists for their projects. If you look at either (or both) of those sites you should be able to get a good idea of commonly used components.

it really depends on what you build - I buy a lot of different TL072/RC4558/9... opamps - tons of 1uF nonpolar and 470-30pF caps - 1, 2, 30, 50, 100k, 1M resistors (all metal film)..... tons of pots...

But, all of the other parts too.....

I know my favorite mods usually involve a 1k pot and a 100 to 50pf cap... so I keep a lot of those around.

Let's see.... for distortion/fuzz chorus, phase and delay pedals, you're going to want...

You can probably cross reference the transistors to European equivs...

2N5087 General purpose PNP
2N5088 General purpose NPN
2N5089 Like above but higher gain lower noise
J201 and/or 2N5457 Good JFET for buffers

You'll want opamps too...

4558 general purpose bipolar dual opamp
TL072 JFET input dual opamp
NE5532 super quality bipolar audio spec opamp

Next you're going to want some 4049UB or 4069UB CMOS inverters for 'tube sound fuzz' type circuits.

Pick up a couple of 4013 flip-flops while you're at it too. Octave down :D

The otehr chips you use will depend on what you're building.... PT2399? BL3207? LM308?

lets see, I have on order right now pt2399, alot of 4558's, couple of tl072, I used an LM308 in my Rat, Cant seem to find any 4013's smallbear doesnt seem to have them, was wanting to build a dlx elec mis. I think I should prob order the tranny grab bags from aron.  Next order from smallbear I will stock up on a variety of opamps. Any idea where I can get any 4013's, LM324's or equivelants? for the dlx electric mistress.

and Thanks!

Check Small Bear again for the 4013, they're on the list I have printed out here.
LM 324 shouldn't be too hard to come by at any good supplier - try Jameco, Mouser, Digi-key, Electronix Express or Circuitspecialists.

oops, yeah managed to find it, thanks and I sourced some LM324's over here from the rat shack of the UK Maplin.
