hello, for a project i am making i need one 330pf and one 470pf (for other 330pf caps i have used 300pf instead, but i dont have any more of those)

how do you go about adding and dividing the values? i have 100, 1000 and 220pf values, so would i be able to add these together in some way to get close to the desired values? how does connecting them in series/parallel affect the overall value?

also, i have some spare caps from other attempted projects, problem being i dont know what values they are... can you work the values out from the codes on them? they are -
473 (which is a small blue cap)
475 (which is a yellow blobbish (tantalum?) cap)

anyone able to help?

This tool is useful for working out the capacitance of capacitors in series. you need javascript installed to use it.

This link will teach you how to read capacitor value codes.

http://xtronics.com/kits/ccode.htm

And just for good measure and future reference here is a capacitance converter for converting between the different values nF uF pF etc.

so that would make 473 a 47nf (47000pf) cap and 475 a 4.7uf (4700000pf) caps

for adding values, i think it works the opposite way from resisters, ie caps in parallell add values, and 1/ct = 1/c1 + 1/c2... for series capcitance

now for a way to work out if i can get the values i want from what i have...
