it`s because of the passive dry/wet mixing and the passive feedback mix (with "color"-switch on). Nothing magical
because the over-all gain of the circuit is roughly unity...
the "passive" concerns the way the dry and the wet signals are added/mixed, and the feedback signal is added to the input signal thru resistors - while the feedback signal in fact is a part of the outputsignal...

now if you plug in a guitar into the outputjack, a part of that guitar-signal appears thru the mixing/adding resistors at the inputjack (where you take it out, when you hook up "backwards");
also, a part of the guitarsignal wanders into the circuit input thru the feedbackresistor, gets shifted, appears at the outputjack where it`s being
moddled up with the in-going dry guitar - signal, and appears thru the passive mixing resistor again at the input-jack.

This scenario works so well with the smallstone (and some clones),
because the over-all gain of the circuit is roughly unity...

It sucksabit however, since when used backwards, the guitar isn`t being buffered, but low-impedance loaded...

the "passive" used here has nothing to do with "unpowering" the whole circuit.

WARNING DON`T REVERSE POLARIZE THE BATTERY!!!

1.) Yea but u still are turning on the battery even if its backwards
    so its Active


2.) why would it be Passive ?


3.) How do i modify all my pedals to do this passive stuff when plug
    in backwards?


4.) do u think if i revered the polarity on the battery or power supply
    it would work better plug in backwards?

5.) How do i make the mixing dry/wet stage passive when plugged
     in backwards but Active when i plug in forward?

1.) So should i use a Buffer pedal in front before going into the Output jack to get the Signal Buffered more ?


2.) so u dont think the signals going through the Opamps outputs first?
    thats what i thought since its going in backwards?


3.) u think its going through the Feedback Path and coming in
    from the mixing Adder Op amp so its like a Loop in a way
    what u are saying how it loops around the feedback path
    and then hits the Phase shift circuit

4.) But can u tell me more about this Unity Gain how is all the Op amps
    Unity Gain ?
 
5.) is it because they are all OTAs opamp?

6.) I know the LFO is controling the Gain of the OTAs

7.) Im confussed about this Unity gain can stuff u said?

1.) if i put signal to the output of a Opamp would we see anything
    at the input?


2.) If im plugging in signal in the output jack its going to branch off
    to the Feedback Path " this is the path where it Regen itself" and it must get around the Feedback path in the phase circuit because they
use Caps or resistors in the Feedback path on the Op amps and at the
inputs of the Op amps its going to read Zero Voltage because its Floating
input but the signal must going around the feedback path over the opamp
through the caps also "this is in the phase shift part im talking about"

3.) Where would i put a Buffer at in the circuit if i put signal in backwards
    and its passive with this unity gain?
    and the signal leakage we are talking about

    a.) do i put a buffer in the output jack?
    b.) or do i put the buffer when the signal comes out
         of the INput jack?

sorry, I`m afraid my knowledge of the english language is not proper enough to correctly understand those questions/postulations.

If we had a schem to look at, it`d be easier to explain, and look where the signals go...
