Is the Big Muff N/S ratio really this high?

I never thought I would be starting a Muff thread! Sorry!

But, today I have a "Little Big Muff" on the bench. The Big Muff and the Little Big Muff have alot in common circuit wise. The "Little Big Muff" doesn't have the Sustain or Tone controls, otherwise they are pretty close. This one is running the BC239 transistors. I added a BMP tone control and that makes the pedal useful. I can get the Gilmore sustain no problem. The pedal is frightening in it's output abilities!

Anyways,  I am surprised at the generally high background noise on this pedal, even at unity etc. I have checked all the grounds and it is my feeling it is just the aging components or the circuit itself. Maybe I am just more discerning these days.

Sure, all those gain stages add up. It's been years since I've had a BMP, but I just wanted to check if this is generally the case with Muffs.
Thanks!

err, - I love high S/N ratios: i.e.: low noise levels compared to the signal-level  :?

you seem to be more concerned about a high noise level

(sorry - the teacher in me...  :) )

Doh!

Thanks PT, I edited the post. It's getting late!
