I read someone saying not to buy a dual beam, so I'm wondering if it would be a bad buy. Looks like I might be able to get it cheap. Auction ends in 25 minutes... If it's worth getting, what would be the max price it's worth?

Bill Bergman

It's no help, but I have one exactly like it. Never learn how to use it.

Bill Bergman

Oh, better check the shipping cost....they pretty heavy.

robotboy

Yeah, shipping will probably be like $35. I figure if I can get it for $40 plus $35 shipping, that might be a good deal... dunno. I don't really have any experience with o-scopes.

Bill Bergman

The probes would probably be another $25 to $30.

i bought a scope off ebay and it was only good for a boat anchor

True. I suppose that I'll wait for one with probes included to save the hassle. I guess I'll need a signal generator as well, but I'm wondering if I could just use something like R.G.'s sine wave generator for that.

I bought a fella like these (OK, too expensive for DIY I admit) with a BIN of US$1500 a year ago:

That may seem expesive but while pressing the BIN the LeCroy quote laying on my desk was 17.000 Euro's. (right now, roughly US$23000) That meant that even when the device was in a Boat anchor state repair would still be cheaper than buying a new one. Got it in, verified functionality and sent it to LeCroy for calibration which it passed without a problem. Bottom line, it's still the best analog scope I ever had.
More stuff, less fear, less  hassle and less censoring? How 'bout it??. To discuss what YOU want to discuss instead of what others decide for you. It's possible...

But not at diystompboxes.com...... regrettably

ONLY BUY A SCOPE OFF OF EBAY IF IT'S GUARANTEED TO WORK.  Mine has a warantee on it, came used but pre-calibrated... I would never buy an as-is scope off  of eBay, or anything that wasn't guaranteed to work.

Well, I didn't buy, and I'm feeling good about it now  8)

I got burned on one of these tube scopes. Got it for $10 thought cool prop even if it doesn't work, then came the shipping charge -- $60. Oops, not such a novel price anymore for a novelty item. It's my reminder to pay attention to those additional costs in ebay.

Look for things like this:

Except perhaps a little less $$!

This one maybe...

Although it's not calibrated.  That one is basically identical to mine.

Etc.

Here's the search I did:

I got a BK scope off Ebay and have had no problems with it. Cost about $45 with another 15 to ship. Not bad, good enough for what I do.
