Hey Everyone! :D

Just want to say that this site has my "tone freak" juices flowing.  Trying to start the process of box building with baby steps and mod my wah as a first project.  I have a GCB-95 rev. h.  I am going to do the mods I found at:

http://members01.chello.se/pastorn/fx/mods/dunlop.htm#_Step_2b._mods

I ordered a yellow Fasel, all the resistors, the Carling DPDT switch, and, what I thought were the right trimpots. The trimpots are 3 legged and just too big for the board.  So here come the questions.

1.  Where can I find the right trimpot replacements for the 33k and 390 ohm resistors?

2. As for trimpots: "Just remember to set them to the correct value before installing, so you’ll know where you are when you start."  How does one do this?

3. The suggestion seems to be to run the new ground wire from the lowest leg of R14 (oriention wise, moving towards the heel position) to lug 3 on the DPDT switch? It's OK?  Still learning to read PCB's.

4. The jumper on the switch from lug 1 to lug 6. I've seen other mods for the same pedal go from 1 to 4???

Like I said...total noob.

Jeez, wait till I get to the Rangemaster.

Thanks,
Joe

Welcome :)

Here's some more wah mod sites, it's always good to have a few sources in your modding "arsenal". Give them a good look over, so you get an idea what exactly each resistor/capacitor mod does to the circuit.

There are no trimpots that will fit exactly in the original resistor mounting holes. They also have 3 legs as opposed to two leads on a resistor. One of the outer legs gets tied to the center leg to function as a simple resistor. Usually, when adding trimpots to a factory board that was never intended for them, you have to find a way to secure them somewhere. You can also replace the resistors with pots on the outside of the pedal. Another way is to use trimmers to find the values you like best, take them out without disturbing the settings, measure them, and replace new resistors back in the board with your new found value. Several ways to skin the cat, so to speak.  What was meant by pre-setting the trimpots was if you were replacing the 33k resistor with a trimpot, you would probably use a 100k trim pot. You would use your DMM to find 33k on the trimpot and mark it on the dial. Same with the other trimmers. That way if you ever get way off base with your adjustments, you have these marks on the trimmers to get you back home with the original settings.

As for the switch, there are several ways to wire it that work.

Btw, if you're gonna place your wah before a fuzz or rangemaster, it will work best if you add an output buffer on your wah. There's an explanation of the buffer on the Fuzz Central site.

Have fun!
