Hi every body,
I'm a total newbie in DIY, but I am very tempted to give a try.

What are some good english spoken places to buy parts from ? I know of musikding.de & banzaieffects.com, who else ?
Thx in advance
Cheers,
Fabrice

If you have decided to enter the fabulous world of DIY, you will soon notice that a place called smallbearelec.com is quite often used among people around here.

You say you're a beginner at this, so you probably want to read up on electronics knowlege before you start buildning. Theory should always be combined with practice, but first things first. A good place to start is the DIY FAQ on this forum, together with the links provided therein. More people will probably chip in with other sources of information.

Bienvenue et bonne chance avec votre projets futures! (grammar OK? :? )

Salut !!  :D

I personnally buy my stuff at my electronics store, in Lyon. For specific parts, it will depend... warmoth, stewmach, or sites like that. Ebay is often useful too.

I buy some of my components at a local store. For projects I used to order at rscomponents, but recently I have placed order with musikding.de, and have been very pleased with it.

Bassmeister: Do you order from smallbearelec.com? What about tax and custom?

http://www.rshelectronics.co.uk, is fast becoming a great Cheap place to buy components. They ship worldwide.

No additional fees were added. I don't know if I was just lucky, I guess tax should be added. I just don't know where to pay those . Really, I'm not sure what rules that apply when importing electronics from the US to a country within the EU. The value of the shipment was conspicuously declared on the envelope in which my order was sent. Perhaps even if they go through every foreign shipment in the customs, which I find hard to believe, they might just not care about such a small value.[/quote]

Moonface

I order my parts from partco.fi.

Last time I ordered from musikding. All went well...
next time I'll check out banzai effects I think...
But the more common things I bought at the local shop

whitewave

Banzai has an excellent service, and great quality products, but it may be difficult to find some transistors, so Smallbearelec sometimes is the only choice.
I've used both Musikding and Banzai, both with no problems (I'm from Italy, and they're German), but I think Banzai has better products.

 Ciao.

Salut,

I've ordered parts from http://www.banzaieffects.com/europe/index.html   and http://www.musikding.de/index.php, both German and both very good.
I prefer Banzai because Olaf Nobis, Banzai's boss, is a very nice guy who knows what customer service means, for example I needed 4 matched FET for a Phase 90 and he matched them for me free of charge, another time I needed an IC I couldn't find on his site, I sent an email and he found one for me.
Cool!  8)

I order my PCB from http://etronics.free.fr/index2.htm in France, cheap, fast and very good quality.

Bon courage et bonne chance!

I buy most of my stuff from Smallbear. It's (relatively) cheape and the service is great.

If I need something really quick I order from ELFA (Swedish Electronics distributor) through the local Electronics store.

Zero the hero

Most of the components come from a local store in Milan.
I ordered from small bear once and I had no problems at all.
